In ogni scuola superiore che si rispetti, c'è quella che viene considerata “la più popolare” tra le ragazze: bella come un angelo, fisico statuario e pelle perfetta, quasi a sfidare apertamente le disgrazie della pubertà! Ricordo perfettamente che il mio primo anno di scuole superiori fu indetto un concorso di bellezza che avrebbe premiato la miss dell'Istituto, e ricordo anche quanta invidia provavo per la ragazza che vinse quell'anno, una dell'ultimo anno, dai capelli biondissimi perfettamente ricci, gambe chilometriche e lineamenti perfetti, mentre io attraversavo il dramma totale dei miei quattordici anni, coi miei capelli come spinaci (che tagliavo da sola mossa da un incontenibile impulso, a volte con risultati terrificanti), i brufoli spietati che spuntavano quando meno avrebbero dovuto e le tette minuscole che non si decidevano a crescere. Il dipinto “La più bella della scuola” si ispira proprio a questi personaggi mitologici, quasi irreali, che mi facevano vivere l'adolescenza in modo diciamo più complicato di quanto già non fosse. Ormai quegli anni sono lontani e adesso mi godo la maturità dei miei 37 anni, stando perfettamente a mio agio con me stessa e continuando a tagliarmi i capelli da sola. Oh, e in caso ve lo chiedeste, le tette sono rimaste tal quali...

In every high school there is a girl who is considered by everybody the school's most popular: angel-like, with a perfect body and a flawless skin, as if puberty's terrible weapons couldn't do anything against her! I perfectly remember that during my first year of high school a contest was held to select the most beautiful girl of the year, and I remember the girl who won the contest too: a 18 years old curly blonde hair beauty with neverending legs and perfect features, while I was desperatey struggling with my 14 years old body with spinach-like hair (which I used to cut by myself, sometimes making a real mess), pimples who pop out always at wrong time in the most visible parts of my face and with my super tiny tits who never grew. The painting “La più bella della scuola – The most beautiful girl of the school” is inspired by these mythological, almost unreal characters, who didn't let me live quietly my already troubled adolescence. Now those days have passed and I can enjoy my age (I'm 37 years old), finally accepting my body, but continuing to cut my hair by myself. Oh, just in case you're wondering, my tits have the same size as when I was 14...
